How to Apply Adult Developmental Psychology in Your Coaching
As coaching professionals we see clients who are regularly bumping up against their blind spots. They struggle to see how their internal conflicts fully impact their actions and subsequent results. As coaches, we strive to help our clients name and work through these difficult mindsets.
Over the psychological development of adulthood there are trends and commonalities to how these blind spots, internal conflicts, and mindsets manifest themselves. As coaches, our practice can be enriched by gaining a deeper understanding of this psychological trajectory.
During this two-hour program, you’ll learn how to apply modern adult developmental psychology to your coaching and see greater opportunities to help your clients develop. We will review Constructive Developmental Theory (CDT), developed by retired Harvard Professor, Dr. Robert Kegan, and its direct application in coaching scenarios.
You will also be exposed to Dr. Kegan and Dr. Lisa Lahey’s coaching process known as “Immunity to Change” (ITC). It works directly to change mindsets and assumptions. ITC is a tool that all coaches should know, it has been adopted by top executive coaches at Google, Wealth Management International, Facebook, and countless other organizations. This program is designed to help you see and make greater sense of what your client is going through, from a different and more creative lens. Learn to open up new roads and avenues to coach your clients to reach greater success.
About Our Presenters:
Adam Malaty-Uhr is a coach and seasoned transformational development professional with 15+ years in leadership development, trained Immunity to Change facilitator, and a Masters Graduate from Harvard University where he studied Constructive Developmental Theory under Dr. Robert Kegan. He is the founder of Growing at Work (www.growingatwork.com) where he helps people and organizations identify and overcome limiting beliefs and unconscious assumptions that drive behavior. Adam combines his experience training combat leaders for the US Army with world-class techniques from Harvard University to maximize the development of those he works with. Adam has supported the development of thousands of leaders in eight countries around the world, and has run leadership development programs at Loyola and DePaul Universities.
